Lawrence A. Mahar
Kyoshi Hachidan (8th Degree Black Belt)
Instructor, Uechi Karate School of Allegan

Lawrence Mahar has been practicing Uechi-ryu Karate-do since 1967 and has been teaching the art of Uechi Karate in Allegan since 1969.  His original instructor was William Keith of Kalamazoo and he continued his training under James Thompson who took over the Kalamazoo dojo in the early 1980's.  In the mid 1990's Mr. Mahar affiliated himself with Walter Mattson with whom he had trained periodically since the early 1970's.

While time, distance, and other obligations have prevented Mr. Mahar from training with any of these three instructors for a number of years, he wishes to thank all of them for their contributions to his study of Uechi-ryu Karate-do.

In addition to his training in the United States, Mr. Mahar has traveled to Okinawa, Japan to study under a number of senior Uechi-ryu instructors.  In the fall of 2005 he made his fourth trip to Okinawa.  While there, he was tested for, and promoted to, his current rank of Kyoshi Hachidan (8th degree Black Belt).
